JANE BOLGATZ
I joined HRCR in 2022, returning to the Harlem River, where I rowed and coxed in college and after. Besides coaching skills building and advanced rowing, I am training my black lab pup, Bear, to be a good launch dog.
BRIANT CANHA
I was introduced to rowing in 1968 as a BB&N schoolboy and have remained a boathouse rat ever since. My first coaching job was at BB&N in 1975 and since then I have coached at Nereid Boat Club, PRRA, Kearny High School, Montclair High School, DC National, Cercle de Regatas Bruxelles and most recently with Harlem River Community Rowing. My coaching experience includes Juniors, Masters, Scholastic and Disabled athletes. I love introducing people to the sport and honing my craft by learning from others. I enjoy the social aspects of rowing making it a point to incorporate rowing into all of my travels.
SOPHIE CHALSMA
I started rowing in 2011, and I joined HRCR in 2021. I started coaching with HRCR in 2022, coaching Learn to Row, the Novice Competitive Team, and weekend recreational sessions. I love meeting everyone who is interested in learning to row and getting to see them find love for a sport that I love so much!
JAMES MARSDEN
I rowed in high school and college in the UK and started coaching my old college team in Oxford in 2009. I coached in the UK for 14 years including winning the Oxford Head of the River trophy in 2021. I love HRCR's inclusive ethos, the great range of experience in the club, and especially that the dock is 150 yards from my front door!
ZULIA MARTINEZ
I started rowing in middle school and have been involved in the sport ever since. I joined HRCR in 2023 and began coaching for our Learn To Row and Skills Building Program in 2024. I'm passionate about sharing my love of rowing and helping others make it a lifelong sport!
